Kilkadziesiąt osób z zapartym tchem wsłuchiwało się w niesamowitą opowieść p. Barbary Kowalik, która w niezwykle obrazowy sposób opowiadała o swej pasji. Pasji niezwykłej, malowania, czy jak to nazywa, pisania ikon.
Gminna Biblioteka w Pomiechówku często gości osoby nietuzinkowe, osoby, które mają i chcą podzielić się swoją historią. Jednak sobotnie (16-V-25r.) spotkanie było niezwykłe z wielu powodów. Jednym z nich niewątpliwie była tematyka. Tworzenie nowych ikon jest twórczością rzadką, szczególnie, gdy oczekujemy dzieła profesjonalnego, wykonanego zgodnie z zasadami sztuki, ale i inspirowanego głęboką wiarą tudzież przekonaniem o wyższym, duchowym natchnieniu. Dzieła powstałego po prostu z głębokiej wiary.
Jednak piątkowe spotkanie było szczególne i z innego powodu, z uwagi na osobę artystki. Pani Barbara Kowalik, mieszkanka Gminy Pomiechówek, o potrzebie tworzenia opowiadała tak, iż na sali zapadała kompletna cisza. Każde jej słowo zdawało nie tylko obrazować rzeczywistość, ale i płynąć gdzieś z głębi serca, z pełnego przekonania. Słuchacz mógł niemal fizycznie współodczuwać wszystko to, co inspiruje p. Kowalik do pochylenia się nad kawałkiem deski, ale ostatecznie mogło powstać dzieło nie tylko zachwycające oko, ale i prowadzące obserwatora do Boga.
Artystka, która tworzy od kilkunastu lat, bardzo szczegółowo opisała też techniczny proces powstania nowych obrazów. Na jakim drewnie są malowane, jak powstają naturalne barwniki czy kleje… Słuchacze dowiedzieli się także, czemu mówi się, iż ikona jest pisania, nie zaś malowana. Z nie mniejszym zainteresowanie słuchali historii, czy może legend związanych z pierwszymi ikonami, a także przyczyn,dla których malowane są tak,a nie inaczej.
Puentą może być tylko jedno – żałować winni ci, których w tej bibliotece zabrakło.

The room fell silent as Barbara Kowalik spoke – icons from faith, icons from the heart
Several dozen people listened with bated breath to the captivating story of Mrs. Barbara Kowalik, who shared her unusual passion with the audience – the sacred art of icon writing. Her presentation, held on May 16, 2025 (Saturday) at the Municipal Library in Pomiechówek, left no one indifferent. It was not merely a lecture on art, but a testimony of deep faith expressed through the traditional craft of creating icons.
Mrs. Kowalik, a resident of the Pomiechówek Commune, told her story with such intensity and clarity that the entire hall fell completely silent. Every word seemed to flow not only from knowledge, but from the depths of the heart. Her reflections allowed the listener to almost physically experience the source of her inspiration – an inner drive, a spiritual calling to transform a humble wooden board into a work of sacred art, one that not only pleases the eye but elevates the soul toward God.
The Pomiechówek Library often hosts remarkable individuals – people with a story to tell. Yet this meeting was exceptional in many respects. One of them was certainly the theme itself. Creating new icons is a rare endeavor, particularly when it is approached with both professional skill and spiritual reverence. In the case of Mrs. Kowalik, her works arise not from artistic ambition, but from faith – from the conviction that the icon is not painted but written, not invented but revealed.
The artist, who has been creating icons for over a dozen years, explained in great detail the technical process of her craft: what kind of wood she uses, how she prepares natural pigments and adhesives, and why one speaks of “writing” icons instead of painting them. The audience also listened attentively to the history – or perhaps the legends – surrounding the first icons, and to the deep symbolic reasons why they are created in such specific, timeless forms.
Only one conclusion can be drawn: those who were absent from the library that evening truly missed something extraordinary.
