W wieku 76 lat zmarł Mirosław Jerzy Chojecki – legenda opozycji demokratycznej, założyciel Niezależnej Oficyny Wydawniczej „NOWa”, która w czasach PRL-u stała się największym wydawnictwem działającym poza cenzurą. Kawaler Orderu Orła Białego odszedł 10 X 2025 r.
Mirosław Jerzy Chojecki urodził się 1 IX 1949 r. w Warszawie, zmarł 10 X 2025 r. Był synem Marii Stypułkowskiej-Chojeckiej, uczestniczki zamachu na Franza Kutscherę i powstania warszawskiego.
Już podczas wydarzeń marcowych w 1968 r. uczestniczył w strajku studentów na Politechnice Warszawskiej, za co został usunięty z uczelni. Należał do organizatorów pomocy dla represjonowanych robotników po Czerwcu ’76. W tym samym roku znalazł się wśród założycieli Komitetu Obrony Robotników.
We wrześniu 1977 r. stworzył Niezależną Oficynę Wydawniczą „NOWa” – największe działające poza cenzurą wydawnictwo, które odegrało kluczową rolę w druku publikacji drugiego obiegu. W marcu 1980 r. został tymczasowo aresztowany, prowadził głodówkę protestacyjną. Po procesie został skazany na karę 1,5 roku pozbawienia wolności z warunkowym zawieszeniem wykonania.
W październiku 1981 r. wyjechał za granicę, gdzie zastało go wprowadzenie stanu wojennego. Pozostał na emigracji w Paryżu, wydawał m.in. miesięcznik „Kontakt”, produkował filmy poświęcone najnowszej historii Polski i organizował pomoc sprzętową dla podziemia w kraju.
Do Polski wrócił w 1990 r. Współtworzył pierwszą komercyjną stację telewizyjną NTW, założył Grupę Filmową „Kontakt”. Był inicjatorem powstania Stowarzyszenia Wolnego Słowa i jego prezesem honorowym.
Za swoją działalność został uhonorowany najwyższymi odznaczeniami państwowymi, w tym Orderem Orła Białego (2022) i Krzyżem Komandorskim Orderu Odrodzenia Polski (2006).

At the age of 76, Mirosław Jerzy Chojecki has died – a legend of the democratic opposition, founder of the Independent Publishing House „NOWa,” which during the PRL era became the largest publishing house operating outside censorship. The Knight of the Order of the White Eagle passed away on October 10, 2025.
Mirosław Jerzy Chojecki was born on September 1, 1949, in Warsaw, and died on October 10, 2025. He was the son of Maria Stypułkowska-Chojecka, a participant in the assassination attempt on Franz Kutschera and the Warsaw Uprising.
As early as during the March 1968 events, he participated in the student strike at the Warsaw University of Technology, for which he was expelled from the university. He was among the organizers of aid for repressed workers after June 1976. That same year, he was among the founders of the Workers’ Defense Committee (KOR).
In September 1977, he created the Independent Publishing House „NOWa” – the largest publishing house operating outside censorship, which played a key role in printing samizdat publications. In March 1980, he was temporarily arrested and conducted a protest hunger strike. After a trial, he was sentenced to 1.5 years of imprisonment with a suspended sentence.
In October 1981, he went abroad, where the imposition of martial law caught him by surprise. He remained in exile in Paris, publishing, among others, the monthly „Kontakt,” producing films dedicated to the recent history of Poland, and organizing equipment aid for the underground in the country.
He returned to Poland in 1990. He co-created the first commercial television station, NTW, and founded the Film Group „Kontakt.” He was the initiator of the Association of Free Speech and its honorary president.
For his activities, he was honored with the highest state decorations, including the Order of the White Eagle (2022) and the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2006).
