Zatrzymują wodę w krajobrazie, pomagają przyrodzie przetrwać suszę i dają dom wielu gatunkom roślin i zwierząt.
A moose and a dragonfly explain why wetlands matter
A dignified moose, the King of the Wetlands, and his energetic assistant, a dragonfly, take children on a tour of wet meadows, oxbow lakes and floodplains. The Friends of Primary School No. 1 Association in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki has produced the educational film "Wetlands Have Superpowers".
With humour and fun facts, the spot explains what wetlands are and why they work like a giant natural sponge: they hold water in the landscape, help nature cope with drought and are home to many plant and animal species, right on our doorstep.
The film was made for children, but adults will learn something too. The message is simple: when you see a wet meadow, instead of thinking "how wet", think "good that the water stayed here".
The spot is part of the project "Wetlands – natural water retention and biodiversity protection", co-funded by the Masovian Voivodeship.
