Dla nas Polaków może być zagadką termin tego konklawe:
Pierwszy dzień 7 maja – Matki Bożej Łaskawej.
Drugi dzień natomiast dzień św. Stanisława.
Leon XIV wspomniał, że to dzień M.B. Pompejańskiej w kalendarzu włoskim.
Też nie źle, to patronka trudnych czasów… Sanktuarium dominikanów… M.B. Różańcowa.
Dym pojawił się nadspodziewanie szybko, ale sam elekt zwlekał nad podziw długo.
Ponad godzinę.
Domyślam się, że pisał przemowę, zapewne nie chciał palnąć gafy ani powiedzieć za dużo.
Dopasowanie szat też pewnie trwało i nie wątpię, że trzeba było przyjąć prysznic po takich emocjach, a poza tym podjąć decyzję w sprawie imienia.
Raczej tego nie planował wcześniej, bo był poza pierwszą dziesiątką papabili…
Papież Franciszek opowiadał, że wymyślił sobie imię podczas ostatniego głosowania, a więc nie przyszedł na konklawe z jakimś pomysłem, jakie wybierze imię. Tak mogło być i teraz.
Sądzę, że był szczerze zaskoczony, jak większość z nas.
To, że to może być Amerykanin, przeczuwłem 30 minut wcześniej, gdy ujrzałem na placu dwóch kapucynów w piuskach.
To mogli być dwaj kardynałowie z USA.
Bardzo zrelaksowani i weseli, jak to Jankesi.
Co mnie trochę zbulswersowało, to zachowanie „publiki”, dość radosne, ale chwilami aż nazbyt.
Mało było modlitwy czy pobożnych hymnów.
A przecież mogło, skoro zebrali się pielgrzymi.
Przez chwilę ktoś zaintonował po łacinie „Witaj Królowo Matko Miłosierdzia”, a potem ktoś jeszcze zaintonował po polsku „Barkę”, potem jednak był śmiech i okrzyki filmowanych na telebimie i…
„Stadionowe śpiewki” w stylu ole-ole-ole-ole…
Polskich flag wyjątkowo mało…
Mówi się, że nowy papież to umiarkowany liberał, a być może centrista…
Ważne, że ma poparcie większości kardynałów i sympatię tłumów zebranych na Placu św. Piotra.
Szału nie było, przez chwilę myślałem, że postanowił się pokazać bez wygłaszania przemowy. Wytrzymał pauzę, czym potwierdził, że nie jest sangwinikiem…
Z angielskim taktem poczekał, aż się wszyscy wyciszą, i dopiero wtedy przemówił.
Mało kto zwrócił uwagę na to, że w odróżnieniu od papieża Franciszka, wdział on czerwoną pelerynę i ozdobną stułę.
Choć sam nie dbam o takie rzeczy, to byłem miło zaskoczony, że mimo opinii liberała, tak ładnie się ubrał.
Franciszek był zadeklarowanym abnegatem, Leon jednak chce dobrze wyglądać i tym też może zaskarbić sobie część wiernych, tych, dla kogo to ważne.
Dla kontrastu warto się przyjrzeć przez chwilę „eleganckiemu papieżowi”.
Ponadto zastanawia mnie wiek papieża.
Ani młody, ani zbyt stary.
Ma czas, by wiele zrobić.
Leon XIII, gdy obejmował tron, też miał 68 lat i doczekał do 93.
Kto wie, czy to się nie powtórzy.
Jankesi żyją długo, a więc dla mnie osobiście to ostatnie konklawe, a papieża z Afryki chyba nie dożyję, choć byłoby to ciekawe zjawisko i mamy to jeszcze przed sobą…
Poza burtą zostało kilku młodych, ciekawych kardynałów, w tym dwaj 50-latkowie z Indii i z Mongolii.
Przepadł starszy kardynał z Węgier i młodziutki Litwin.
Kościół ma wciąż duży potencjał, ale wygrał pragmatyzm.
Człowiek z USA ma szansę podnieść autorytet i prestiż Kościoła w oczach tych z nas, zwłaszcza Polaków, dla których USA dużo znaczy.
Analysis of the Events on May 8th at St. Peter’s Square:

For us Poles, the timing of this conclave might be puzzling:
The first day, May 7th – Our Lady of Grace.
The second day, however, is St. Stanislaus’ Day.
Pope Leo XIV mentioned that it is the day of Our Lady of Pompeii in the Italian calendar.
Also not bad, she’s the patroness of difficult times… the Dominican sanctuary… Our Lady of the Rosary.
The smoke appeared unexpectedly quickly, but the elect himself delayed surprisingly long.
Over an hour.
I assume he was writing his speech, surely didn’t want to make a blunder or say too much.
The adjustment of the vestments also probably took some time, and I don’t doubt that he needed to take a shower after such emotions, and also make a decision regarding the name.
He probably hadn’t planned this earlier, as he was outside the first ten papabili…
Pope Francis shared that he came up with his name during the last voting, so he didn’t come to the conclave with a name already chosen. It could have been the same this time.
I believe he was genuinely surprised, like most of us.
The possibility of it being an American, I sensed 30 minutes earlier when I saw two Capuchins in cassocks on the square.
They could have been two cardinals from the USA.
Very relaxed and cheerful, as is typical for Americans.
What somewhat unsettled me was the behavior of the „audience,” which was rather joyful, but at times excessively so.
There was little prayer or devout hymns.
And yet, it could have happened, since pilgrims had gathered.
For a moment, someone intoned in Latin „Hail, Queen, Mother of Mercy,” and then someone else intoned „Barka” in Polish, but then there was laughter and cheers from those filmed on the jumbotron and…
„Stadium chants” in the style of ole-ole-ole-ole…
There were unusually few Polish flags…
It is said that the new pope is a moderate liberal, or perhaps a centrist…
What’s important is that he has the support of the majority of cardinals and the sympathy of the crowds gathered at St. Peter’s Square.
There was no great excitement; for a moment, I thought he had decided to show himself without delivering a speech. He endured the pause, confirming that he is not sanguine…
With English tact, he waited until everyone calmed down, and only then did he speak.
Few paid attention to the fact that, in contrast to Pope Francis, he wore a red chasuble and an ornamental stole.
Though I personally don’t care about such things, I was pleasantly surprised that, despite his liberal reputation, he dressed so nicely.
Francis was a declared ascetic, but Leo wants to look good, and this may also win him the favor of some of the faithful, especially those for whom this matters.
For contrast, it’s worth taking a moment to observe the „elegant pope.”
Additionally, I wonder about the pope’s age.
Not young, nor too old.
He has time to do a lot.
Leo XIII, when he took the throne, was also 68 years old and lived to 93.
Who knows, maybe it will repeat.
Americans live long, so for me personally, this might be the last conclave, and I probably won’t live to see a pope from Africa, although that would be an interesting phenomenon, and we still have that ahead of us…
On the periphery, there were a few young, interesting cardinals, including two 50-year-olds from India and Mongolia.
An older cardinal from Hungary and a very young Lithuanian have fallen by the wayside.
The Church still has great potential, but pragmatism won out.
A person from the USA has the chance to raise the authority and prestige of the Church in the eyes of those of us, especially Poles, for whom the USA means a lot.
