19 IV 2026 r. o godz. 5⁰⁰ po poł. w Muzeum Kampanii Wrześniowej i Twierdzy Modlin odbędzie się otwarte konwersatorium historyczne zatytułowane „Skarby przeszłości – przypadek, pasja czy wiedza?”. Wydarzenie wpisuje się w obchody 220-lecia Twierdzy Modlin i stanowi kolejną propozycję dla osób zainteresowanych historią odkrywaną poza podręcznikami – w terenie, często dosłownie spod ziemi.
Spotkanie poświęcone będzie zjawisku detektorystyki oraz szerzej – poszukiwaniom zabytków. Between Passion and Responsibility. Discovering the Past in Modlin Fortress
On 19 April 2026 at 5:00 PM, an open historical seminar titled “Treasures of the Past – Chance, Passion or Knowledge?” will take place at the Museum of the September Campaign and Modlin Fortress. The event is part of the celebrations of the 220th anniversary of Modlin Fortress and offers another opportunity for those interested in history discovered beyond textbooks—often literally beneath the ground.
The meeting will focus on detectorism and, more broadly, the search for historical artifacts. Organizers announce a discussion covering both practical aspects of fieldwork and legal and ethical issues. At the center will be the relationship between amateur searchers, professional archaeologists, and institutions responsible for heritage protection.
Passion, Knowledge or Chance?
The starting point of the discussion will be the question posed in the title: is discovering the past mainly a matter of chance, a result of passion, or the outcome of knowledge and experience? This seemingly simple issue touches upon the essence of modern approaches to heritage—its research, documentation, and protection.
The seminar will also address responsibility for discovered artifacts, current legal regulations, and the problem of illegal searches, which remain a serious challenge for the protection of archaeological sites.
Guests and Moderation
The guest of the meeting will be Rafał Dymerski—a historian, detectorist, and creator of the “Mazowieckie poszukiwania przeszłości” platform, actively engaged in documenting and promoting local heritage. The discussion will be moderated by Piotr Duda, president of the Triglav Historical and Research Association, historian, and archaeologist.
The event is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Nowy Dwór, Sebastian Sosiński.
