Upamiętnia poległych w walkach 14 i 15-VIII-1920r.
Znaczenie pomnika wykracza jednak poza sam obiekt. Jest to przede wszystkim miejsce pamięci o ludziach, którzy walczyli i oddali życie w obronie niepodległości Polski. Każdego roku spotykają się tam mieszkańcy, przedstawiciele władz, środowisk patriotycznych, rekonstruktorzy oraz osoby zainteresowane historią regionu.
Odnowienie pomnika ma również znaczenie edukacyjne. Borkowo pozostaje miejscem przypominającym kolejnym pokoleniom o walkach nad Wkrą i wydarzeniach z sierpnia 1920r.
Borkowo Memorial Restored. Preserving the Memory of the Heroes of 1920
Restoration work has been completed on the memorial in Borkowo commemorating those who fell during the Polish-Soviet War on August 14 and 15, 1920. The work was carried out as part of the project “Borkowo 1920 – Honor to Those Who Fell for Their Homeland,” prepared by the Nasielsk Cultural Center. The total cost of the project was PLN 21,900, including PLN 17,100 in funding from Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The Borkowo memorial is one of the sites preserving the memory of the events that took place along the Wkra River during the Polish-Soviet War. It commemorates those who fell in the fighting on August 14 and 15, 1920. More than a century after those events, the memorial site has now undergone restoration.
The project, titled “Borkowo 1920 – Honor to Those Who Fell for Their Homeland,” was prepared by the Nasielsk Cultural Center. It received PLN 17,100 from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the 2026 “Memorial Sites and Permanent Commemorations in Poland” program.
The total cost of the project was PLN 21,900. The grant came from funds provided by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage through the Cultural Promotion Fund, a state special-purpose fund.
The work was not limited to the monument itself. It also included its immediate surroundings. The objective was to restore the proper appearance of the site while protecting it against further deterioration. The completed work is intended to preserve an important element of the area’s historical heritage for years to come.
The significance of the memorial, however, extends beyond the physical structure. Above all, it is a place dedicated to the memory of those who fought and gave their lives in defense of Poland’s independence. Every year, residents, government representatives, patriotic organizations, historical reenactors, and people interested in the region’s history gather there.
The restored memorial also has an educational role. Borkowo remains a place where future generations can learn about the fighting along the Wkra River and the events of August 1920. Preserving such sites protects not only physical evidence of the past but also the knowledge of local history.
The restoration carried out as part of the Nasielsk Cultural Center project therefore serves both to protect the memorial itself and to preserve the memory of those who fell. More than a century after the events of the Polish-Soviet War, Borkowo remains a place where local history is inseparably connected with the memory of those who fought in defense of an independent Poland.
