The House of God begins to rise

In the fall of 1994, one of the most important chapters in the history of the parish began—the construction of its church. The foundations came first, followed by the walls, and on November 22, 1998, during the parish’s tenth year of existence, Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk signed the church’s Foundation Act. The document, together with the cornerstone, was then ceremonially placed in the wall of the church under construction.

Work began on September 12, 1994, with formwork borrowed from Kablobeton in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. It was then positioned in the previously excavated area according to the construction plans.

On October 7, 1994, concrete was poured into the first section of the formwork and around the reinforcement for the foundation footing and the church’s load-bearing columns. This first stage required 50 cubic meters of concrete.

On October 10, 1994, workers began installing formwork for the second section of the foundation footings and columns. Concrete work on both stages was completed on November 9, 1994, closing the perimeter of the future church’s foundations. Approximately 100 cubic meters of concrete were used in total.

Construction continued despite the increasingly short fall days. On November 16, 1994, two lighting poles were installed at the construction site, allowing work on the completed foundations to continue. Four days later, on November 20, the final formwork was installed in the basement section of the church, beneath the location of the future main altar.

From December 1 through December 18, 1994, the foundations were preserved and protected with Abizol waterproofing compound. Soil was also placed against the foundations from the outside. Cadets and commanders from the Dębinka Military Unit participated in this work, along with Edward Ochtabiński and Mieczysław Górecki—longtime parish volunteers—and others.

The next major phase took place between 1996 and 1998, when construction of the church’s side walls continued.

Work was also carried out in the existing chapel. In 1996, its PVC flooring was replaced with terrazzo tiles and a new sound system was installed.

In 1998, work began in the basement of the church under construction on a refrigerated facility intended for the storage of the deceased. Full thermal insulation was installed, together with a professional refrigeration unit equipped with an automatic control system. The facility became operational in 2003.

November 22, 1998, holds a special place in the history of the construction project. It was the tenth year of the parish’s existence. During a solemn Mass, Bishop Kazimierz Romaniuk signed two copies of the church’s Foundation Act.

The document was also signed by the parish priest, Fr. Stanisław Wawrzyniak; Mayor J. Żmijewski; J. Kowalski; M. Michalak; Member of Parliament J. Zakrzewska; construction manager Henryk Traczyk; supervising inspector Jan Wieczorek; and others.

The Foundation Act was then placed inside an urn made by soldiers from the Military Unit in Kazuń. Following the Mass, participants proceeded to the construction site, where the urn containing the document and the cornerstone were ceremonially placed in the church wall.

The ceremony was given a special musical setting by the “Soli Deo” choir from St. Michael the Archangel Parish, conducted by Józefa Łuszczyńska.

The history of the church’s early construction years shows that the undertaking involved much more than professional construction crews. Parishioners, community volunteers, and soldiers all contributed to the project. From the first foundations laid in the fall of 1994 to the ceremonial placement of the Foundation Act and cornerstone in 1998, the emerging church became a shared undertaking of the local community.

The construction was also documented by the local press. Accounts of these events appeared, among others, in issue No. 17 of “Tygodnik Nowy Dwór,” dated April 28, 1995, and issue No. 34 of “Tygodnik Nowodworski,” dated December 3, 1998.
